The Machame Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it features varied landscapes, a gradual acclimatization profile, and excellent summit success, especially when done over 7 days.

Trek through lush rainforest to Machame Camp. Expect humid terrain with chances to see monkeys.

Climb a ridge out of the rainforest into open moorland, reaching Shira Plateau and Shira Camp.
Hiking Time: 6–7 Hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp to sleep low.
Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours
Climb the iconic Barranco Wall (memorable and safe) before contouring to Karanga Valley Camp.
Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours
A steady ascent to Barafu Camp, your staging point for the summit. Early dinner and rest.
Hiking Time: 13–16 Hours
Begin summit push at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise. Descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Hiking Time: 3–5 Hours | Habitat: Rainforest
Final descent to Mweka Gate. Receive summit certificates and transfer to your hotel in Moshi.
